About Leonard Peikoff

Leonard Peikoff, a philosopher, is Ayn Rand’s legal and intellectual heir. He was a close associate of Ayn Rand for thirty years, and today is the pre-eminent spokesman for her philosophy of Objectivism.

Dr. Peikoff received a doctorate in philosophy from New York University in 1964 and has taught philosophy at Hunter College, Long Island University and New York University. He has also taught at the Objectivist Graduate Center, and for many years he has lectured on Objectivism throughout the country, including regular appearances at the Ford Hall Forum in Boston. He has appeared hundreds of times on radio and television, including a televised debate with Pat Buchanan on CNN in 1982 and a guest spot on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher in 1996. His commentary has appeared in such newspapers as the Orange County Register, Miami Herald, Charlotte Observer and Los Angeles Times.

He is author of Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand, the definitive statement of Objectivism. He is also author of The Ominous Parallels: The End of Freedom in America, and is editor of numerous Ayn Rand anthologies. Dr. Peikoff is currently writing a new book, “The DIM Hypothesis”, which deals with the role of epistemology in cultural and practical affairs. He expects to complete it in 2008.
